Hi, I’m Chelsea Cameron

I believe that one of the most important factors impacting if therapy will be successful is finding the right therapist. It’s important to find someone who understands and fits your needs. If you don’t feel comfortable being yourself or if you’re nervous about coming to sessions, you won’t be able to reach the goals you are capable of reaching. You're doing enough hard things in your life, therapy shouldn't add to the hard. That is not to say that therapy will be easy and there won’t be uncomfortable moments, but hopefully the therapist you choose can help support you as you lean into the discomfort. The purpose of this section is to share a little about myself to help you decide if I might be a good match for you.

In session

During sessions, I enjoy laughing and I genuinely like spending time with my clients. That doesn’t mean I’m not serious about the work we do or that I won’t push you to meet the goals you have for yourself through therapy. My goal is to help you reach your goals and feel comfortable sitting with difficult emotions and sensations, so they don’t control your life outside of sessions. I can’t do the work for you, but I will support you every step of the way. I believe therapy should be a team effort, and you should have a say in how your treatment goes because no one knows you better than you know yourself.

Random facts that prove I am a human

I’m a huge Chicago Bears and Blackhawks fan! I love sports, but hockey and football are my favorites. Right now, I’m living in Washington, so I have respect for the Seahawks and Kraken as my “backup teams.” No shade intended. I’ve got two little boys, so coffee is pretty much my lifeline and go-to comfort drink. If you join me in session, you’ll definitely see me with a coffee in hand. I love going on “easy” hikes—think long walks with gorgeous scenery—and the beach is definitely my happy place. I love all animals and if you want to distract me while talking about the deep dark, show me your pet and I will get distracted. Watching wildlife at the beach is just pure magic—sea otters, whales, sea lions, dolphins, seals, tide pools—you name it!

My Approach

My favorite approaches are trauma-informed, which means I often use techniques that focus on the body and how it reacts to stress. I will ask where you notice things in your body and I love to explore how your brain and body work together. This may involve talking about how your nervous system, gut, emotions and internal protection systems function. I will also ask about relationships and moments in your life that impacted you. When we can better understand how your whole system (body, emotions and thoughts) is trying to protect you, we can help challenge and change those patterns. We can’t change the past, but we can change how you react and behave now so it doesn’t impact your future.

My Work History

I have been practicing as a therapist since 2014, with extensive experience in community, residential, and school-based settings. During my time at a residential facility in Florida, I provided support to adolescents in their recovery from substance abuse and helped them process past traumatic experiences, including human trafficking and violence. I completed training and became certified in EMDR therapy during this period, which I found to be highly effective and fulfilling.

I have been fully licensed since 2018 as a Mental Health Therapist and Marriage and Family Therapist. Around that time, I moved to providing support and crisis intervention to students and staff within a school district. When I moved from Florida to Washington, I opened my private practice and have been working with adults since then. I am passionate about my work and remain continually inspired by the resilience of individuals in overcoming significant life challenges.
